Well, as you all know by now I am finally up and running again. Thanks to Thess and John. It has been quite some time since I have had the oppurtunitty to write a blog. Things are going well for me, for the most part. Work is getting us through day to day and we seem to have work out there to go to. I am already for Christmas and have all my presents wrapped. I was actually done with all that last week. I got a jump on everything so I didn't have to do it all at the last minute.
It this year has been quite a bit different for my crew at work. Not really any overtime to speak of and only got on Saturday all year. A few of the guys on the crew did work a couple Saturdays with other crews to help out. It seems as though the dirt crew suck up all the overtime and all the profit out of every job. Of course that is just speculation on my part. Every job we as a company have, the dirt crews end up working 10 and 12 hour days, Saturdays (time and a half) and a lot of Sundays (douple time). This is a result of them getting so far behind the on jobs that they have to put in all the extra hours to meet the deadlines at the end. As a crew we do get pretty pissed of. It seems we get all the jobs that are a major pain in the ass, take a lot more thought and time to get done. And then we are told only 8 hours a day. Go figure...is it because we are productive enough in those 8 hours that we don't need to work overtime to get it done on time. Is it because we work efficiently enough that we don't have to put the extra time in to finish. Or is it because for some strange reason they just don't want us getting any overtime. Their are some guys that have worked the past 4 or 5 months worth of Saturdays and have worked 6, 7, 8, 9 Sundays in that same period. Then here we are usually getting 40 hours a week, but alot of weeks with 37 and 38, and that is even trying to stretch our work out just to get those hours. Oh well!!!! We just think of it as...efficiency and productiveness. How else to explain it?
